A 15 day trek in the beautiful Mt. Everest region of Nepal. Following a 45 minute flight from Kathmandu, the trek starts at Phaplu, main village of the Sherpa district of Solu. Settled nearly 500 hundred years ago, the area has a distinct feeling of peace as it lies south of Lukla, the main entry point to Everest.
Upon crossing the Taksindu la pass 3071m we descend to the bottom of the dramatic Dudh Kosi canyon, which we then follow for 5 days before reaching Namche Bazar, the heart of the Khumbu. There you will see Tibetans and Sherpas trading wares and services at this famous bazaar in the sky. The air is clear and the views of the towering Himalaya are truly awesome. Extra batteries for your digital camera are recommended!
Above Namche lies the Tengboche Monastery, the spiritual centre for Buddhists in eastern Nepal. Our timing co-incides with the annual Mani Rimdu festival. It features ancient costumes and dances depicting the spiritual stories of Buddhism. The backdrop is the Everest group with the Nuptse wall, Lhotse Shar and, towering above all, Mt. Everest . Trulu a memorable sight.
We return to Kathmandu by Twin Otter from Lukla.
4 days at the Kathmandu Guest House in the heart of Thamel. A farewell dinner at an excellent Nepali restaurant concludes our adventure!
